Still Sick

We went to Columbus this weekend even though I was still a little sick. It was fun and crazy as it always is to travel with kids. They were so good in the car, it is a 1 1/2 hour drive. Jonah slept both ways, AMAZING! Sam slept on the way back. Bekah and I listened to Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. I think I successfully got her hooked on the series! I don't like to drive so I was really grateful that the kids were good. Hey, prayer works!
We got to see where Alan has been working the last 5 weeks. It is called the Good Neighbor Health Center. He has been able to use his Spanish a lot! One more week of being apart during the week and then he will be home for about 2 months. It is definately not something we plan to do too much in the future, it is hard to be apart. I don't know how military families do it!
We went to a water park in Columbus and the kids swam for 5 hours! I felt ok at this point, just still coughing and hoarse. I even went down the water slide that is shaped like a toilet and "flushes" you out. It was interesting, but a little scary! I think I'll stick with the traditional water slide, thank you very much. Saturday night we went out to the Farm where Alan has been staying. The kids loved all the animals, dogs, cats, chickens, goats, a horse and a mule.
We went to church at the Branch there, very nice group of people. Then we had a picnic of sandwiches, fruit and chips. I felt a little worse on Sunday. Then the kids and I got ready to go home. Like I said, everyone was good on the way home and getting unpacked. Then I started to feel worse again. I had a fever again and was coughing so much I thought I might cough up a lung! Alan insisted that I go see a doctor on Monday and after a night of misery I was ready to go. I got to spend lots of money on drugs that really better work. I also was about to kill my kids because it seemed like they were fighting a lot more than normal. So Audra, I can sympathize with you on being sick in the summer. It is strange to be cuddled under a feather down comforter in 98 degree weather! Hopefully I will get pictures of the water park up soon, it was really fun.

Sick Week

Bekah has been battling a summertime cold and she lovingly passed it on to me. I felt it coming on Tuesday night. Also on Tuesday Jonah just wouldn't go to sleep, he cried and cried. He had a temp and then he threw up. He still had a fever on Wednesday, but acted normal, no more throw-up (yeah!). I took Nyquil last night and went to bed early. I woke up in the middle of the night to a closed, crusty eye. Conjunctivitis I thought and went back to sleep. The pink eye is from Sam (he had it last week). Luckily, because of Sam, I have drops and used them in both my eyes this morning. I'm sure I looked wonderful at swimming lessons this morning with my eye all swollen! Now both boys are coughing a little, I just hope that it doesn't get worse. We are going to Colubus Nebraska this weekend since Alan has been working there for 5 weeks. They have a fun little water park there and we plan to check it out. Hopefully we will all be a bit better, I plan to take it easy today.

Feeding The Squirrels

Sam and I fed the Squirrels at Union College today, while waiting for the kids in swimming lessons. We tossed the squirrels some of Sam's honey nut cheerios and they just sat in front of us and ate them. Really cute!

Summer Activities

Busy, Busy, Busy!! Summer activities seem to take up all my time and I haven't been blogging regularly. Here are some updates on the things we are doing right now.

  • Swimming lessons every morning for Bekah and Jonah. Jonah in particular loves swimming lessons and successfully passed preschool level one and is now in preschool level two. Last year he was in preschool level one for two sessions, but he doesn't care he just love to go and blow bubbles. Bekah is doing a very lovely front crawl and learning safety and survival things as well. Sam and I usually take a walk for 45 minutes, good time to get some exercise.
  • Bekah has been battling a summer cold, it just won't go away! I really hate that! Sam had pink eye last week too. It is so fun putting drops in his eyes!
  • Our neighbors gave us a rope swing and we hung it in one of our trees, now I have a swing too! I love that thing. I've decided that I always want to have a swing, just for me!
  • We are going on some weekend getaways soon and are excited to visit (among other placed) a water park and Ikea. Guess which one I'm most excited about!
  • We have been going to the zoo. Jonah can't stop talking about the baby turtle he saw. We have found afternoons less crowded, which we all like.
  • At the pool where the kids take lessons they have open swim time in the afternoon. We are members there and so we can swim for cheap! Sam wants to be like the big kids (no safety floating device for him!). This has been a hard one as he can't really swim! Jonah loves to jump in and go under water (something he hadn't done last year).

Harry Potter Fever!

We have Harry Potter Fever at our house. The kids have been watching the movies (they haven't been interested in them up to this point), Alan and I have been listening to the last two books on cd, and I just convinced Bekah to start reading Sorcerer's Stone (the first book in the series). It is so fun to hear Jonah try to say names like Haggred, Dumbledore, Hogwartz, Hedwig and Hermoine, and now every tree is a womping willow!

Now that I've reread the Half-Blood Prince (the sixth book) I am ready and excited to read the Seventh book when it comes out on July 21st! I have had mixed feelings about it, not wanting to see how it ends, not wanting the series to end! Now I think I'm ready. Alan and I were sharing some theories about what will happen in the last book. He's got some interesting theories that may be true, we'll see. The Next Harry Potter movie comes out next week and we watched the trailer last night(we had to pause the Harry Potter cd to watch) We were also talking about how hard it would be to write the movies, having to edit out good parts of the book and how to change things to make the movie work.
